Product Description

A vibrant green Beryl gemstone from Nigeria.

The blue-green gemstone falls into a controversial gemmological category.
While some gemstone authorities would classify gems of this type as an Emerald, there is an argument that, technically an Emeralds green colour should be due to the presence of both Chromium and Vanadium in its chemical composition.
If Chromium were present, that would be apparent through spectrum analysis and the gem would appear a red colour when viewed through a Chelsea Colour Filter.

However, some green Beryls, like the one on offer here, owe their green colour purely to Vanadium and display no sign of Chromium as a colour agent... and therein lies the controversy.
Some experts would identify gems such as this an Emerald, while others consider the term Vanadium Beryl to be more accurate.

This gem is a superb example of this rare sub-species, with a saturated blue-green colour and moderate inclusions.
