A pale blue Synthetic Spinel gemstone created by the Verneuil, or flux-melt, method, created to imitate Aquamarine.

Under microscopic magnification, the otherwise clean gem displays the diagnostic curved growth striae associated with the method of creation.

The gem also reacts to long-wave ultraviolet light, fluorescing a pinkish-red colour when exposed (image 4).
