Product information

A rare Spodumene gemstone in a pale aqua-blue colour from the Patroke mine, Kunar province, Afghanistan.

Blue is a very unusual colour for Spodumene, a gem variety more frequently encountered as pink-purple Kunzite or green Hiddenite.
These unique gems are only found in Afghanistan, mostly from Kunar province and occasionally also in the neighbouring Nuristan province.

The colour is due to the stone being subjected to radiation naturally during its formation and it is worth noting that it may fade on prolonged exposure to daylight or other strong lighting.
The intensity of the blue colour can appear more saturated when held against a pale background, as shown in images 4 to 7.

The gem on offer here is beautifully faceted, has a lively, flashy appearance and is a superb example of its type.
