Sinhalite is a rare magnesium aluminium borate mineral named in 1959 for its original source. Sri Lanka, Sinhala being the historic Sanskrit name for the island.  
Currently the only appreciable sources are Sri Lanka and Myanmar.

This finely faceted greenish-yellow gemstone is from the Ratnapura district of Sri Lanka. The stone has some faint needle-like inclusions on one side, otherwise an outstandingly vibrant gem.
