A thin "polki cut" slice of a Diamond crystal from South Africa.

The stone holds a mass of black Graphite particles which are arranged along the crystal planes of the host in a starburst pattern.
Images 4 and 5 are magnified views of the inclusions in this gem, a feature which leads to the commercial term "salt and pepper" being used for diamonds which have dark yet attractive inclusions.
