Product Description

A small cabochon of the rarest of Beryl varieties, Red Beryl, also known as Bixbite.

This member of the Beryl family is only found in the Wah-Wah mountains of western Utah, USA and owes its colour to the presence of manganese in its chemical composition (Be3Al2Si6O18 + Mn) and is named after Maynard Bixby (1853-1935), an American mineralogist who discovered the first specimens in 1905.

This gem is from the original source and while moderately included has a vibrant raspberry-red colour, a little darker and more saturated red than my images show in most lighting.

weight:  0.76 carats
shape:   Off-round cabochon
