An iridescent Rainbow Andradite Garnet cabochon from the Kohse mine, Tenkawa village, Yoshino district, Nara Prefecture, Japan.

These rare and sought after stones are only found in a handful of locations, with the finest quality specimens coming from this locality.
Very few examples lend themselves to polishing as their outstanding iridescent quality can be lost during the process.
 

This exceptional example of the species has been cut into a cabochon with faceted upper surfaces which enhance the stunning electric coloured display of spectral colours which shift as the gem is tuned and tilted in the hand.
