Product Description
Libyan Desert Glass is found on the borders of the Libyan & Egyptian Desert.
The deposits are spread over many kilometers and their origin was a mystery for centuries until recently analyzed and found to be the result of a meteorite which exploded above the surface of the desert.
The intense heat of the fireball liquified the sand, leaving an extremely pure pastel green Silica glass.
Streams of air bubbles are visible by eye in this very rare faceted gemstone. Images 4 and 5 are magnified views of the inclusion scene, with the air bubbles in the foreground amidst the characteristic "roiled" flow lines of the silica.
Faceted gems of this fascinating tektite are rarely encountered.
