Libyan Desert Glass is found on the borders of the Libyan & Egyptian Desert. The deposits are spread over many kilometers and their origin was a mystery for centuries until recently analyzed and found to be the result of a meteorite which exploded above the surface of the desert.
The intense heat of the fireball liquified the sand, leaving an extremely pure pastel green Silica glass.
This rare faceted gem contains a number of Cristobalite crystal inclusions which are evidence of the extreme temperatures in which the glass was formed.
