LIBYAN DESERT GLASS
Libyan Desert Glass (LDG) is a scientific curiosity and a gemological rarity, whose origin dates back to before the time of the Pharaohs and has been known to us since then.
Found on the borders of the Libyan & Egyptian Desert, spread over many kilometers, this mysterious natural glass was only recently found to be the result of a meteorite which exploded above the surface of the desert.
The intense heat of the fireball liquified the sand, leaving an extremely pure pastel green Silica glass.
Few specimens of this unique Tektite are available, fewer still as faceted gems.
