Kornerupine is a borosilicate mineral, first discovered in Greenland and named for the Danish geologist Andreas Nikolaus Kornerup (1857–1883).
Transparent crystals of facetable quality are uncommon and highly collectible.
The saturated brownish-green colour of this eye-clean gemstone from the Elahera district, Sri Lanka is a combination of the stones dichroic colours, the gem appearing either greener or more yellow-brown depending on the viewing angle or through a dichroscope (see images 3 & 4).
