Product Description
A very rare and desirable cabochon from the reknowned Sixteen to One mine in Alleghany, California which has been in operation since the California gold rush in mid 19th century.
This cabochon has veins of pure, lustrous gold which run through the white Quartzite host rock. Many cabochons cut from the thin gold-bearing strata of this material are backed with a stabilizing layer, usually black Onyx, technically making them doublets, whereas this superb example is a thickly cut single specimen. A highly collectable gem from a classic source.
