A set of 4 Garnet-topped doublet gemstones, in red, blue deep green and peridot-like lime green.

The gems each have three components, with the upper facets being natural red Garnet which has been fixed with an adhesive to the coloured glass which comprises rest of the stone.

The join between the parts can be seen as a seam running around the stone just above its girdle, as can be seen in the magnified images. This layer is also occupied with flattened gas bubbles held within the glue.
Apart from the red stone, the gems display a tell-tale red rim when placed table-down on a white surface.
This is due to the red Garnet tables being reflected through the gem.

An excellent study stone set for students of gemmology.
