A constructed gemstone made to imitate Sapphire.

The gem has three components, with the upper facets being natural red Garnet which has been fixed with an adhesive to the synthetic corundum which composes rest of the stone.
The join between the parts can be seen as a seam running around the stone just above its girdle, as can be seen in images 4 and 5.
This layer is also occupied with flattened gas bubbles held within the glue, as shown in images 6 and 7.

The lower section of the stone is comprised of blue glass which also contains gas bubbles.

N.B. the stone has a noticeable chip on its girdle which can be seen on a crown facet.

An excellent study stone for students of gemmology.
