Product Description

A fabulous little cabochon of "Easdale Gold", a historic material mined on Easdale island, in the Firth of Lorn in the inner Hebrides, Scotland.

It is dark grey-black slate which is studded with euhedral, cubic Pyrite crystals.
The nature of the slate means that these specimens do not take a high gloss polish and thus appear somewhat matt in appearance, although the metallic, golden Pyrite gleams in the light.

Easdale is the smallest permanently populated island of Scotland's inner Hebrides and was once a prolific source of slate used for roofing.
