DENDRITIC QUARTZ
The term 'dendritic quartz' refers to the branch-like structure of the black or brown pyrolusite inclusions found in transparent to translucent quartz. In some stones the pyrolusites metallic lustre scatters and reflects light to give an array of spectral colours, while in others the patterns of foliage-like dendrites stand out against their white backgrounds, or nestled among yellow to brown oxide inclusions.
