An Amber cabochon from Myanmar with a very rare insect inclusion.

Known as Burmite, Amber from this source is among the most ancient of all Amber deposits worldwide. 

This fine cabochon has excellent transparency and a well-preserved Mosquito is visible by eye.
Images 4 to 6 were taken through a microscopic and show the anatomy of the insect, with its extended wings and limbs and its skin-piercing mouth-parts on display.

When the cabochon is exposed to longwave UV light, it displays the characteristic strong blue fluorescence of Burmite Amber (image 7).
