An Amber cabochon from Myanmar with a rare insect inclusion.

Known as Burmite, Amber from this source is among the most ancient of all Amber deposits worldwide. 

This fine cabochon has excellent transparency and a tiny Cicada insect is visible by eye.
Along with that, other organic remnants of its growth environment are visible under magnification.
Images 4 to 6 were taken through a microscopic and show the internal features of this gem, with the Cicada revealed as being translucent.

When the cabochon is exposed to longwave UV light, it displays the characteristic strong blue fluorescence of Burmite Amber (image 7).
