A composite cabochon with an attractive combination of gem materials.

The main component is a layer of synthetic Aurora Opal created in Australia.
This has been overlaid with a black grid-like pattern and covered with a dome of colourless, transparent Quartz.
Its base is composed of black Onyx, giving the cabochon a durable and stable structure.

The effect when the gem is tilted and rotated in hand is rather captivating as the Opal lends a shifting, shimmering appearance to the stone.
