An Amber specimen from the La Bucara mine in the Dominian Republic.

This partly dark-coloured transparent gem holds a couple of interesting remnants of the ancient forest environment in which it formed.
The tubular specimen, a lightly polished flow-tube, holds a small but eye-visible leaflet from the Hymanaea tree which produced it.
On closer examination, tiny reddish-brown fecal pellets can be seen (magnified images 6 and 7).
These may possibly be mammalian in origin.
