A partly polished rough specimen of Amber from the Dominican Republic.

An unusual and unidentified Fly is just visible by eye through the polished face of this specimen.
Under magnification, all of its anatomical details are clear to see, including its bloated abdomen, compound eyes, unusual proboscis and its extended limbs and wings.
A large gas bubble is also attached to its back, as shown in magnified images 6 to 8.

Image 9 shows the specimen in longwave UV light, where it displays a chalky greenish-blue fluorescence.
This phenomenon can be seen with a simple UV penlight or torch.
