An Amber cabochon from the Dominican Republic with a range of insect inclusions.

The transparent stone is somewhat cloudy in parts due to a mass of gas bubbles which obscure the interior features unless viewed under magnification.

Suspended amidst the field of bubbles (and possibly responsible for them) is a swarm of tiny Springtail insects (Collembola) as can be seen in magnified images 5 and 6.
Also visible is a small Beetle with a shiny carapace, a Wood Gnat with extended wings and a series of tiny enhydro's, water-filled cavities with bubbles (images 7 to 9).

The gem displays a chalky greenish-blue fluorescence when exposed to UV illumination (image 10).
