A golden orange-yellow Amber cabochon from the La Bucara mine in the Dominican Republic.

Suspended within the transparent Amber time-capsule are organic remnants of its ancient environment.
Most prominent of these is a male long-legged fly of the Dolichopodidae family (order Diptera) (magnified images 4 and 5).

The cabochon exhibits a chalky blue fluorescence under long-wave UV illumination, a common feature of Amber from this source (image 6).
