An Amber cabochon from the Dominican Republic with a striking botanic inclusion.

Held within the transparent Amber is a long stalk of the Hymanea tree from which the Amber formed, attached with several tiny leaflets.
This feature is clearly visible by eye, running along one side of the cabochon.

Under greater magnification, a small web-like mass of anthers from a Hymanea flower can be observed, along with a few tiny insects (images 7 and 8).

As with most Amber from this source, the gem displays a strong fluorescence when exposed to UV illumination, glowing a greenish-blue colour (image 9).
Some of this effect can be seen when the stone is viewed in direct sunlight, giving the cabochon a greenish-hue.
