A remarkable Kyanite gemstone from a recent find in Orissa, India.
The gems from this new source are rich in Chromium and Vanadium, giving the Kyanite, mostly seen in deep blue, green and orange colours, a unique electric teal blue colouration more usually associated with heat-treated Apatite.
The colour of this new gem variety is entirely natural and the material coming from this source is notable for having fewer inclusions and a more saturated, less colour zoned appearance than is commonly encountered in Kyanite.
Production of these gems is limited and faceted examples over 2 carats are hard to come by.
