Known to mankind for many centuries, Galena is the primary ore of industrial lead, being the natural mineral form of Lead Sulphide. It is a popular mineral among collectors for its colour, metallic lustre and often dramatic crystal habits, but because it is brittle and has perfect cleavage it is very rarely faceted.
This fully faceted gemstone from Durango, Mexico is the exception to that rule. The lapidary who polished it did a great job, producing a well proportioned gem.
A very rare find that would grace the collection of any fan of unusual faceted minerals.
